Yes and I actually prefer it to MS Office in many ways. The only thing I find less effective in Open Office is the spell and grammar checks are somewhat less efficient, but otherwise I really do enjoy it and for me, I find it more user friendly than MS Office. The newer versions of MS Office I think tried to streamline things and make things look "neater" - but to me they seem hidden or something - I like that everything is just right there where I need it in Open Office.

In short yes. It is a bit different than MS office. One will have to get used to those differences in order to use it successfully. But it is very functional and can do almost everything MS office does.

I have used openoffice and thought it was okay. I only switched to MS office because of formatting issues on some application forms. It is functional and extremely good considering it costs nothing to download.

I have used openoffice.org and it is a very good collection of various tools that are well written and properly organised. They create very portable file. Since openoffice.org is available on Linux operating system it becomes easy for us so that we need not need to convert those file's to any other format. Also its Mac version is available through which we can link all the three different operating system at same time.
